‘Walking the Labyrinth’ can be seen as a metaphor for our own spiritual journeys. The labyrinth is an ancient way of praying and being that has reemerged in our modern times. The paths can be the same, but the experience is different for all. Many have found the labyrinth a rich way to pray- calming the mind and connecting the body with the spirit (and the Spirit!). Let’s talk about Labyrinths then “walk the walk”. You may come to both times this day, or pick the time that works best for you.

Centering prayer is a time of resting in God’s grace without saying anything! The book, Sacred Breath: Forty Days of Centering Prayer, has daily devotional prayers for the days between our meetings. The author, David Muyskens, says in his introduction to the book, “I can’t make it by myself… none of us can make it by ourselves. But, just as air is readily available for its life-giving support, so God’s love is abundantly given to us. We can receive the gifts of God and let go of our own efforts. It’s as simple as breathing- inhaling and exhaling.”
The Case for God
WHEN: Wednesdays, 6:00 PM—7:00 PM, September 21—October 26
WHERE: Library
LEADERS: Mary Grodner, Greg Toney
COST: Book is available in the Church Office for $10.00
Moving from the Paleolithic age to the present, Karen Armstrong’s book, The Case for God, details the great lengths to which humankind has gone in order to experience a sacred reality that is called by many names, such as God, Braham, Nirvana, Allah, or Dao. Focusing especially on Christianity but including Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, & Chinese spiritualities. Armstrong examines the diminished impulse toward religion in our own time, when a significant number of people either want nothing to do with God or question the efficacy of faith. Why has God become unbelievable? Why is it that atheists and theists alike now think and speak about God in a way that veers so profoundly from the thinking of our ancestors?
